My 2020 Reading List
For the last few years I’ve kept lists of all the books I read in the year - part to keep track of so many goodies but also to inspire myself to read more year-after-year.
I love setting little goals for myself (another blog post for another time)- and the number of books I read each year is a goal I take very seriously!
I wasn’t always a book lover, let me tell you (my dad reminded me of that the other day lol).
Ever since I took my Personal Development + Growth journey more seriously about 3 years ago, books have been my preferred tool, followed by podcasts + webinars.
It’s amazing what knowledge, tips + tricks you can soak up from a quality read that stretches your mind.
I love connecting with so many of you about what I’m currently reading, what’s next on my book shelf and have also connected a few of my local gal pals together for a super fun book (wine) club!
Well, let’s get to it shall we?
Here’s my line up of 2020 reads:
Super Attractor by Gabby Bernstein
Well Being.
Where are all by Gabby fans at? Gosh, I get excited when she drops a new book!
In this book, Gabby lays out the essential steps for living in alignment with the Universe-more fully than you've ever done before. This book helps inspire us to remember where our real power lies.
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Well Being. Personal Development. Business.
This has to have been one of the most popular books of 2020 I feel! James Clear delivers quality, tactical advice for building and maintaining (new) habits. It will give you a refreshed perspective on how you think about progress + success.
Dare to Inspire by Allison Holzer
Personal Development. Business.
This book was a birthday gift from a dear friend, who know gifts me a new book every birthday - love that!!
I really enjoyed this book as it had so many great nuggets to apply to a solo-preneur business hustle as well as a corporate hustle. Wonderful lessons + inspiration for leadership.
24/6 by Tiffany Shlain
Well Being. Personal Development.
This book was such a great reminder that we are very much addicted to technology (as I stare at my laptop screen writing this lol). This book inspired me to start making time and space for digital detoxes on the weekends and my goodness has it been something that I look forward to + really value! If you haven’t tried a digital detox yet, do yourself a favor and try it out!
The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown
Well Being.
This was my second Brené Brown read - I admire all the work and research she has done in her career and how she has transformed so many lives around her with her work. Though I don’t connect with her as an author and mentor as some do, I did grab some good nuggets from the 10 guideposts for wholehearted living that she shares in this book.
Girl Code by Carla Alwill
Personal Development. Business.
I read this book in a day! During a digital detox weekend might I add!
I love Carla’s realness in her writing - it felt like I was just sitting with my BFF (Carla in this case), enjoying a glass of champagne in a hotel lobby bar and soaking up all the knowledge + business inspiration she was sharing. This is a great, easy read for all of the Girl Bosses out there!
Own the Day by Aubrey Marcus
Wellness. Personal Development.
I would consider myself a high performer in many areas of my life and this book inspired me to continue down that path, especially when it comes to optimizing my wellness, nutrition + sleep routines. Matt and I both read this book and loved it!
Influencer by Brittany Hennessy
Well Being. Business.
This was a book I was curious to dive into, especially in the world we currently live in with monetizing our online presence and personal brands. Brittany gives some great advice on getting into the ‘influencer game’ and provides some good tips for anyone looking to develop their personal brand and monetize their Instagram + social channels.
She Means Business by Carrie Green
Personal Development. Business.
I loved this book! Honestly probably one of my favourites from this list. Carrie delivers fantastic advice (and real life feelings) on following your dreams, building your business and all the important elements that go into your business launch. The book is full of inspirational quotes between chapters, free resources and an actionable 28 day plan at the end of the book. I’ve been using this book consistently since finishing it in the summer!
The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks
Personal Development. Business.
This book came recommended from some of my business mentors + girlfriends. This book will inspire you to break down walls + mental blocks in pursuit of a better life. Great book for entrepreneurs!
Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo
Personal Development. Business.
I loved this book! Honestly probably another one of my favourites from this list.
Marie is SO real in her writing and how she delivers such real, relatable nuggets of actionable advice. Matt read this book as well and also loved it - highly recommend!
The Mister by E.L. James
Fiction.
This was one of my fun reads! I like a storybook like read before bed so that my mind isn’t rushing with ideas and inspiration before I go to sleep. This was a sexy, steamy read! (Matt liked to tease me about this one haha)
Mindset by Carol S. Dweck
Well Being. Personal Development.
This has to be one of the most frequently mentioned books from leaders in the Personal Development, Leadership + Entrepreneurial spaces. Carol Dweck breaks it down to two options when it comes to our mindset - fixed mindset or growth mindset. She shares some great references and stories from leaders in their fields (eg: Basketball Legend, Michael Jordan). I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely growth mindset!
The 5am Club by Robin Sharma
Well Being. Personal Development.
This was another book that I saw pop up on different recommendation lists and Instagram, so I finally got it and holy smokes did I love it! Robin Sharma breaks down some quality steps to optimize your daily habits and lifestyle. This is a fantastic book for creating productivity, personal mastery + great for leadership. Loved this book!
Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer
Well Being.
This book was gifted to me by another sweet girlfriend, honestly books with hand written notes have to be one of my favorite gifts! This book is full of inspiration to help you free yourself of limitations + soar beyond your boundaries. It’s a little more on the deep + spiritual side of things and radiates good vibes + positivity!
UNTAMED by Glennon Doyle
Well Being.
I had only got into Glennon Doyle’s work 2 summers ago with my first book of hers being ‘Love Warrior’. I respected all that she shared in that book… and then she dropped UNTAMED. She is honest and open and vulnerable with all that she shares in her work, this book included. These pages inspire us as women to rise up and just BE YOU.
The Lies that Bind by Emily Giffin
Fiction.
Such a good story! I’ve been a Emily Giffin fan for a while and this book did not disappoint! She has a way with her stories really coming to life in your mind as your flip through the pages, I love that about her work. Perfect read for a beach vacay or pool day at home!
I have so many good things to say about so many of these amazing books!
Some incredible lessons, reminders + powerful takeaways.
TIP: aim for 20 minutes of positive reading a day, preferably to kick off your day, and watch how it impacts your healthy habits, mindset + personal/business growth.
